Curation: Blog 3

Throughout the week I haven't spent a lot of time adding things to my website because it already has a lot of information and I am still able to add things over time. I added a few more nail polish colors and designs because I find more and more every time I look.
Out of all the new information I have found I don't think there is one specific link or element that was most interesting because all of it is interesting. The new designs and styles I find are interesting though. It takes a little while to find things but in the end I always come up with something good to add to the website.
The biggest obstacle I need to overcome is always the same, which is finding more and information and designs to add to the website. It's always hard to find a lot of information all at once and it can be difficult at times to find a good place to put each new piece of information I have found.
The next three steps are simple. It's look for more information, look for more info, and look for more info. The more information I find, the more I can add to my website. And the more I add to my website the better my website can become.
Curating a website isn't the easiest thing in the world because it takes a lot of time and effort. You can't finish a website because there can always be more things to add to it. I feel that I am lacking some information and more style tips. There is a lot more to nails than people would think. After finding information on it I was surprised myself at how much info there is on nails and designs and styles.
To make the project run more smoothly I would have to say that I would be able to work on it more without and distractions such as other school work. Creating a website isn't easy when there are others things to deal with.

Curation: Blog 2

Throughout this week I have made a few adjustments to my curation project. I found a lot of information about nails and the different types of designs used on nails. I do my nails all the time but I never do any crazy designs like some of the ones I found. The biggest obstacle I had to overcome this week was finding a lot of information about designs and all the different brands of nail polish. There are a lot of brands for mail polish out there. It was pretty difficult to find good places for all of the information. Getting information can be easy but putting it all together in a way that works well. The next three steps will take a lot of time to work on. I need to gather more info about designs and put them on the website in a good organized way. Another thing I need to do is add more pictures to show people how many interesting designs there are. A third step would be to add more detailed information about the manicure and pedicure processes. But overall I need more information to make more progress on my project. The website is working fine and google sites are easy to use. Overtime things will get both easier and more difficult but theres a reason why this project is an infinite game!

Dialectics: Modern Art and Post Modern Art

I learned more about art after watching the film Exit Through the Gift Shop. I came to realize that there is a lot more to street art then people think. Some is graffiti but most of it is art. The artists choose to do street art to both make a point and to put their name out there. Banksy became famous because his street art was unique and unlike any of the other artists' work. Bansky's street art was very post modern.

In the film there was both modern and post modern art. Banksy's work was post modern because his art represented the individual and his interpretations of things in real life. His art was unique because he wanted his own style and in order to do that he had to see things in a different way than others. And through his art he was able to do that.

Theirry on the other hand, his art was very modern. His art consisted of fragmentation and was presented in ways that it wouldn't usually be seen in. He tried to choose art for his show that made a statement. He chose over 200 pieces of art and most had similar styles. The style of Andy Warhol's painting of Marilyn Monroe was used in several of his pieces but each had different faces. These pieces are modern because they are abstract and don't reflect the individual. Theirry's art doesn't reflect who he is as an artist, he chooses art that he believes makes a statement.

By having both modern and post modern in the film, it illustrated the fact that there is more to street art then just spraying paint at a wall. Each artist has their own style and as a result there is a lot of diversification for the public to see on the streets.

Metacognition: Mashup

I had never done a mashup before so there were times when I had a difficult time coming up with ideas to create it. I chose patience as my topic and after I knew what my topic was it was easy to pick out quotes that went along with it but it was hard to find ones that went along with each other. After I finished choosing quotes and other sources I had a difficult time deciding what quote or reflection I wanted to start with. After about ten minutes or so I decided to start it with a quote from Letters to a Young Poet.

Starting with a quote made the project really start to come together. There came a time in the middle of the project where I couldn't think of how to continue. I struggled with coming up with ideas on how to relate my topic with the other quotes I chose. I finally figured out a way and I hope it turned out okay.

I never thought that the project would take a ton of time to complete but there came a time where I needed to take a break because it got kind of overwhelming and I struggled with generating new ideas. If I were to do this proejct again I would definitely spread out the work over a longer period of time. I should have limited the amount of distractions because it took time away from working on my project. I had music playing, I was texting, and Facebook was open. So if I were to tell someone who is also working on the project, to eliminate or keep their distractions to a minimum.

In some ways I enjoyed working on this project because it definitely expanded my thinking. I never thought I could think in the ways that made this project possible. I have never done a project like a mashup that would me think more "out of the box." I like that my mind can think in these ways because now I believe I can do more projects like this one and be more successful. My thinking isn't at the level that I want it to be at. I wish my thinking will get even better in the future.

Despite the difficulties I faced when completing this project there were times that I enjoyed it. Doing this mashup will help me with similar projects I might have to do in the future.

Best of Today: Frank Gehry

I missed the day when we started watching the documentary of Frank Gehry but even after missing the beginning it was easy to understand what it was about. Frank Gehry is a very talented architect. On the second day we watched the film the artists and  Frank Gehry were talking about his process in  designing buildings and the Disney Center.

He has a very unique way of designing his buildings. The film showed us a few pictures of his sketches  and they were just scribbles. He didn't include any details because that's what he used computers for. He knew exactly what he wanted in the design and the computers were used for things he wanted to change. He didn't use computers at first but then he decided they were needed for the things he couldn't do on paper.

His "scribbles" are how he makes art. And one of his art creations was the Disney Center which is located in Los Angeles. It has a unique shape to it. The building looks like it was made with a sort of aluminum foil type material. I like the shape of the building and the way it looks when the light reflects off of it. He has a unique way of using light in his buildings. I like his style of architecture because i'ts different than other styles I've seen.

Blogging Around

I read Cassie's blogs because she writes about interesting topics and I always end up reading more than one. I chose to write a comment on her blog about the connection between atoms and art. It stuck out because that isn't really  something that I would consider a connection but she made good reasons why it was. I myself am not an artist and when I look at art I don't look at the small details I mostly look at the big picture. My comment was:

"This was a good connection because I too can relate. I am not the type of person that looks closely at the little details but when I do step back I definitely see the bigger picture. My perspective on things does change."

I also read Karolina's blogs because she writes a lot about topics that I wouldn't really ever see. I read her blog about the inconvenient truth about the intentions of a teenage mind. The word teenage really stuck out to me so I decided to read it. She made a lot of good points about typical teenagers and a lot of stuff she wrote about was true. Teenagers believe that they have to act a certain way or do things just to seem like a normal teenager. My comment was:

"While reading this I was agreeing with a lot of what you were talking about. I myself am not 18 yet but  I doubt that turning 18 will change the way that I will act."

Connection: Postmodernism

For the past few days in class we have been discussing the differences in between modernism and postmodernism. We talked about it from several subjects such as the individual, art, worldview, truth, and memory. We watched clips and read about some books to help us understand the differences between the two sides. We only spent a few days out of the week talking about but i'm sure we could have spent much longer discussing it. But what we talked about was really interesting and it made me think about how it relates to things in my life. Both things that have already happened and things that will happen in the future.

I think the ones that relate most to my life are the ones about worldview and memory. The worldview of postmodernism relates more to my life than the worldview of modernism. On the worksheet we used to reference in class, there is a point made that all voices- past and present-coexist and that originality is difficult. I believe that I am the same person I was a few years ago on the inside but on the outside there are obvious changes. It's the same with the world. There are obvious changes but it mostly stays the same in specific ways. So in the future I will change but in some ways I will still be the same.

The section on memory of postmodernism relates to my life because I have a lot of memories. On the worksheet it mentions that we a withing a memory; memory is not within us. So its almost as if it's an illusion. I have experienced and seen many things over the past 17 years but I have many memories that are still there but it's very hard to remember. For example, when I was younger. I don't remember specific things but I still have memories. We see things everyday but we don't remember every single thing but there is a memory that remains.

There are many more things about postmodernism that I can relate too and also modernism. But the memory and worldview sections relate the most to my way of life. I thought that this was a very interesting topic discussed in class. I'm glad I got to learn more about it.
